Bio
Born in the Philippines, Arlu has photographed celebrities, society portraits and commercial campaigns in Asia, Europe and the US. In 2001, Arlu moved to New York City to join the studio of master celebrity photographer Sante D’Orazio, who became his mentor, and worked as his First Assistant from 2001-2003, then as studio manager from 2003-2007. Here, he was also commissioned to shoot for magazines such as L’Uomo Vogue, Tokion, Vapors, as well as corporate projects and society portraiture.
In 2007, he returned to the Philippines and has been shooting for editorial clients such as Lifestyle Asia, Metro Society, Mega, Cosmopolitan, Philippine Star, Flow, Asian Dragon, Smart Parenting, and Working Mom Magazines. Other clients include GMA Films, Regal Films, Levi’s, Topshop, Topman, Mint, Blackwater, Ayala Land Premier, Alveo, and Thunderbird Resorts. He has shot portraits of Manila’s elite, including Her Excellency President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, Imelda Cojuangco, Marixi Prieto, Don Jaime Zobel de Ayala, Henry Sy, George Ty, and George Yang.
Arlu is the recipient of the 2009 Philippine Quill Award for Best Photography for his Lifestyle Asia cover of fashion designer Monique Lhuillier and her sister, Yvette, shot on location at the St. James Hotel in Paris. He also received the 2001 Directors Award from his alma mater, the Hallmark Institute of Photography where he graduated with honors.
Arlu currently travels throughout Asia and the US shooting commercial and editorial work.
